4 Runner was an American vocal group formed in 1993 Craig Morris (lead singer), Billy Crittenden (baritone), Lee Hillard (tenor) and Jim Chapman (bass). A new lineup consisting of Morris, Hillard, Chapman and Michael Lusk to replace Crittenden came together in 2003 to record an album.

4 Runner was formed in 1993 when Craig Morris met Billy Crittenden in Nashville, where both singers were working as songwriters. Later, Jim Chapman (brother-in-law of Christian musician Steven Curtis Chapman) and Lee Hillard joined the group. They toured with Kenny Rogers during the 1990's.

Polydor Records ' Nashville division signed the group in 1995 That year, they released their debut album. The lead single "Cain's Blood " reached a peak of 26 on the Billboard US Country music chart and 14 on the RPM charts in Canada. The other three singles from the album did not reach the top 40 charts in the US, the second single from the album ("A Heart with 4 Wheel Drive ") was a Top 20 hit in Canada.

Due to restructing of Polydor, 4 Runner was transfered to A&M Records and Billy Simon was brought in to replace Crittenden. Their second album was not released due to the closure of Polydor/A&M's Nashville division in 1996. However, what was to be the lead single off the album, "That Was Him (This Is Now) " had already reached the country charts. The group disbanded not too long after.

Reunion Edit

In 2002, Morris, Chapman, and Hillard reuinited, bringing in Michael Lusk as a baritone vocalist. An a capella cover of the Christmas classic "What Child Is This? " was released by the group later that year. An album, entitled Getaway Car was released in 2003. The single "Forrest County Line " reached number 59. The group performed background vocals for Craig Morgan 's 2003 single "God, Family, and Country ". They recorded their own version of the song on Getaway Car, as well as a version of "Love a Little Stronger ", originally a Top 5 hit for Diamond Rio and co-written by former groupmate Billy Crittenden.

The group disbanded again after the release of Getaway Car. Morris, Hillard, and Simon are all members of Loretta Lynn 's backup band. Crittenden currently works as a real estate agent and is married to songwriter Pam "Sunny" Russ. Chapman currently teaches Art and coaches swimming at Brentwood Academy. He has added four adopted daughters to his family since 2001.
